Principality of Liechtenstein
In the heart of Europe,
internationally networked
The Principality of Liechtenstein has almost 40,000 inhabitants and is located in the heart of Europe, nestled between Switzerland and Austria. Zurich is an hour away and Munich can be reached by car in two hours. Most European cities can be reached within two hours via Zurich Airport or the small Altenrhein Airport, which is only half an hour’s drive from our head office in Vaduz.
Liechtenstein offers a very stable political, economic and legal environment and thus an ideal starting point for various private and business needs.
The Principality of Liechtenstein celebrated its 300th anniversary in 2019. The number of jobs, particularly within the financial center and the innovative high-tech industry, is almost equal to the number of inhabitants.
Liechtenstein is a member of the European Economic Area. There has been a customs treaty with Switzerland since 1923. This opens up excellent opportunities and direct access to both Switzerland and the EU. Liechtenstein thus offers strong “passporting” to the rest of the world.
One of Liechtenstein’s striking advantages is the availability of all relevant services within short distances.
This enables flexibility and short decision-making processes in a legal area controlled by the financial market supervisory authority.
The tax system in Liechtenstein is very simple. With a so-called flat tax rate of 12.5 % on the taxable net income of legal entities, a minimum income tax of CHF 1,800.00 and a VAT rate of currently 2.5 to 8.1 %.
As a member of the OECD/G20 Inclusive Framework in BEPS, Liechtenstein has clearly committed to global minimum taxation (of effectively 15%) and has been implementing this since January 1, 2024.
The introduction enables solid corporate capitalization without the lack of debt-related benefits such as interest deductions.
Company forms
FL Foundations
The Liechtenstein foundation is an independent legal entity without shareholders, which ideally takes into account asset protection and estate planning or can pursue a charitable purpose. Liechtenstein foundation law allows for a variety of flexible solutions to meet your needs and ensure the preservation of assets across generations.
The services of our partner – Ganten Treuhand – include the establishment of foundations, the drafting of statutes and by-laws that can be tailored to your needs and, if required, the obtaining of legal opinions. We also offer the organization of ongoing management with all administrative tasks.
FL Trusts
As an alternative to a Liechtenstein foundation, you can also opt for a trust solution in Liechtenstein. Since 1926, Liechtenstein has been the only Central European country to have its own Anglo-Saxon style trust law.
This legal basis gives you the opportunity to include this legal form in your planning. At the same time, it gives the Ganten Treuhand team the opportunity to advise you even more efficiently and comprehensively.
